Why Lumen Exists

Lumen was created in response to a gap in mental health care for adolescents in Wilmington and the surrounding community.

Too often, teens have access to weekly outpatient therapy when they’re doing relatively well and inpatient hospitalization when they’re in crisis—but very little support exists in between.

Meeting Teens Where They Are

As a therapist working with adolescents, our founder, Clare Rolquin, MSW, LCSW, LCAS, saw this gap firsthand. Teens could be attending weekly therapy and making progress, but when symptoms intensified or a crisis occurred, there were limited local options for increasing support without moving directly to a much higher level of care. Families were left trying to navigate the space between “weekly therapy isn’t enough” and “my teen needs to be hospitalized.”

Lumen was created to help fill that space.

Our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program provides teens with more structure, therapeutic support, and opportunities to practice skills than traditional weekly therapy while allowing them to remain at home, attend school, and stay connected to their everyday lives.

Our approach combines evidence-based treatment, meaningful relationships, practical skill-building, and family involvement in an environment created specifically for adolescents. Treatment is individualized and collaborative because we believe teens should be active participants in their care—not simply recipients of it.

Lumen exists so families in Wilmington have another option

A place to turn before things reach a crisis point, a place to step down to after a higher level of care, and a place where teens can receive the support they need while continuing to be part of their lives, families, schools, and communities.
